History: tl;dr version of the canon history
He was around for a good long while before he became a unified kingdom. Most of his time before and after that he spent being a bit of a hooligan (though also a trader) bothering mostly the eastern parts of Europe, sometimes teaming up with and sometimes fighting against Norway and Denmark - though once he became a strong nation and an important power in the North his relationship with Denmark started to consist of constant wars (they hold the record for the most wars fought between two nations...). For a while, Sweden was the strongest military power in Europe. Then he was the first idiot to attack Russia in a land war, but he stayed significant even after, though he did calm down a bit. Norway at some point declined from being on equal footing with them to being a territory - of Denmark, most of the time, but about fifty years ago Sweden made him live with himself instead.
This was shortly after Russia invited Finland, who had been living with Sweden for hundreds of years by that time and whom Sweden had a massive crush on, (more or less nicely) to live with him instead. Not that Sweden hadn't been dating Norway when they were much younger, either, but ...well, that didn't exactly make it a less complicated situation.
And then Sweden, and briefly after Norway and Finland, were all pulled to the same island, where they ceased having the duties and powers of nations. The primary concern of the island (requiring sex of its residents at least once every two weeks) wasn't much of a concern, because Norway moved in with Sweden due to not quite having fallen out of thinking like nations yet and being practical people they found an arrangement. That is, until dramatic things happened, and Norway moved out to live with Finland instead. A process of courting began, and in the end all three nations started dating and they (and briefly, Japan) moved into a farm at the outskirts of the town together with their two dogs (Floweregg and Pocchi), two cats (Dencat and Icecat), some chicken and sheep. After a while they also hosted another character's horses.
Personality:
There are more or less two Swedens: The one that one would see, and the one that he is inside. Sometimes, they seem like polar opposites. I'll describe those two sides first before making the connection.
The outside: Is plain intimidating or even scary, and the more you talk to him, the scarier he gets. He tends to loom over people, partly because of his height, partly because of his face and the eerie aura that he emits. He doesn't speak much and when he does, it is usually only very short sentences that are hard to understand. On the other hand, this is only him being intimidating, he never attacks anyone or utters open threats in a conversation (though what he says can often be interpreted as such, since he doesn't really manage to pick an appropriate tone, facial expression and body speech very well).
The inside: Is described as playful. From what we have seen so far he is very caring, reliable and gentle and tries to keep Finland and others that he cares for as happy and safe as possible. He tends to secondguess what he wants to say too much and thus never says much at all, and can even be really shy sometimes. He tries to understand what others are thinking and to make them feel at ease, just usually doesn't succeed.
He is a calm person who likes to do things on his own, with his own hands, instead of leaving it to others. When he seems scary, he is usually either worried or concentrated or both or just thinking/trying to figure something out. Pretty much every expression that isn't neutral looks scary (okay, even his neutral expression is). Smiling or long speeches are just something that he doesn't do.
But he doesn't shy away from a fight or disagreement for the sake of peace and harmony if it seems necessary to him and instead dives in head-first. And he has a significant potential for violence, both for political means and as a result of emotions. When younger, he is shown to have no issues with attacking and injuring younger nations (to be fair, that is almost everyone in his area, and they are just as violent to each other) and have highly violent fights with Denmark. This violence can be because of economic reasons like raiding or crusades, for political reasons like territorial gain or to fight another's influence on himself, but also to deal with anger by just turning it into aggression, not necessarily at the party that angered him. He seems to have a good grasp on himself though, and we have good reason to assume that he isn't quick to anger – but gets really violent when someone manages that. Over the last years, his potential for violence has been receding, and it is unlikely that he would harm minors now.
Abilities:
☀ Nations are neither born nor die, they simply show up and go away one day. (In AM, he obviously could die, but it will be very hard to kill him and he can't die of "natural" causes.)
☀ Nations do not get ill the way humans do. They catch colds from bad economies, but they don't catch colds from being in the cold for too long, things like that.
☀ Related to the above as well, a very long life and a physical ageing process that has nothing to do with age.
☀ Nations are shown to be generally stronger and more enduring than normal humans of the same stature.
☀ Sweden can speak multiple languages. Those at the very least include
➥ [fluently] the linguae francae/high society languages that he's used over the years: Latin, French;
➥ [fluently] the language spoken by his own people: Swedish, Old Swedish, Old Norse and Old Germanic;
➥ [to varying degrees from fluent to a grasp on the basics] languages that were or are spoken by a large enough number of his people, or were important for trade: Proto-Russian, old Kazakh, Tartar, various versions of German languages, English, Dutch, late medieval and early modern age Polish, Byzantian Greek, Meänkieli and mainland Finnish {the latter is an oddball because he learned it for purely personal reasons}
➥ He also understands Norwegian and Danish in their various versions, but instead of speaking them he would revert to “Scandinavian”, so that is a passive thing.
☀ He is very skilled at crafts. (Carpentry and model building from scratch without instructions, sewing. Probably others, too.)
☀ General proficiency with everything connected to warfare. This includes hand to hand combat; proficiency with all weapons and tactics used between the Scandinavian iron age and 1851; seafaring (including building them, navigation and sailing/rowing/etc up until 1851); general organization and logistics.
☀ General high proficiency with farming and to a lesser degree trading.
☀ He can ride and train dogs.
Inventory:
- Two cats
- A dog (Floweregg)
- A hoe.
- Aranrúth
Anything else: His collar cannot come off, though it has lost all other limiting properties.
